Clogged Shower Drain

We all know that clogged shower drains are annoying and can be very disgusting at times. The last thing anyone wants while taking a shower is to stand in ankle-deep dirty water. Clogged shower drains can cause you to slip and fall as well. This is not a good way to start your day.

Premier Plumbing, your licensed Greenville Plumber is available to unclog your shower drain. If you are feeling brave and want to tackle the project yourself, here are a few tips before you contact us.

  1.  Stay away from chemicals to clear a clogged shower drain. While using chemicals to clear your drain may make sense it can actually cause more damage to your pipes resulting in hundreds or thousands of dollars of damage.
  2. Remove the shower drain cover. Removing the drain cover can make it a lot easier to locate and remove the clog in the shower drain.
  3. Remove the grime. Pour boiling water down the drain even if you have been able to remove the clog. This is helpful to loosen any grime that has built up in the shower drain and is an excellent solvent. You may also want to add this to your weekly chores if the problem is persistent.
  4. Use a plunger. Surprisingly a plunger can create enough suction to loosen the clog and guide it down to the larger pipes to drain out. Make sure to fill the shower pan with water before using the plunger.
  5. Snake it. A plumbers’ snake can be pushed down the pipe and rotated to help dislodge the clog.
