Common Plumbing Problems

Plumbing problems can be a nightmare to work with. That’s why we are here to help you however we can. But knowledge is power, here are 8 of the most common plumbing issues and what causes them.

Sump Pump Failure

Sump Pump issues can be tied to multiple areas, some causes being heavy rain, improper installation, stuck switches, and aging. To learn more about sump pumps check out our other blog posts.

Leaky Pipes

These can be caused by a few different things including clogs, incorrect pipe laying, excessive water pressure, cracked seals, or pipe corrosion. No matter what the reason is this common problem needs to be resolved quickly. The longer leaks are ignored the bigger the problem can become.

Leaking Hose Bibb

This is very common in the spring and summer months. Hose bibbs can become cracked during the cold winter months. Investing in a frost proof hose bibb can prevent this issue from occurring again next year.

Dripping Faucets

Having your faucets dripping water can be annoying but also costly. The dripping faucet can be caused by something as simple as a worn-out washer or O ring. These can be easily replaced. If that doesn’t solve the problem you may need to contact a Premier Plumbing in case it is corrosion.

Running Toilets

A running toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water a day and increase your water bill. That’s a lot of water and it’s important to understand what causes it. This can be from a refill tube problem, corroded toilet handle, worn out flapper seals, or improperly sized flapper chains.

Water Heater Issues

Hot water is a necessity for a variety of things inside the home. So, when you aren’t getting any hot water, it becomes an issue quickly. This can be caused from the wrong size of system, heating element failures, loose electrical connections, or corrosion.

Low Water Pressure

This may be one of the more annoying things to happen inside you home, especially if you are trying to shower or clean dishes. Low water pressure can be a sign of pipe corrosion, hidden water leaks, sewer or drain clogs, or cracked sewer lines.

Clogged Drains

Draining problems can be extremely serious and even cause health hazards. If you have one slow or clogged drain usually means it is a localized issue which can be from hair, soap, or other objects building up. However, if you are experiencing slow draining in multiple locations across the house you may have a sewer line issue and need to contact Premier Plumbing immediately.
