Out and About in a Greenville Summer

Greenville Summer

Here at Premier Plumbing, we like to get out in the summer air and enjoy all that the Greenville area has to offer. We thought we’d take some time to share our favorite activities with all of you to give you some new ideas of fun things to do in the area with family and friends.

Hiking near Greenville

Lace up your hiking boots and get ready to hit the trails to explore some of Greenville’s incredible outdoor spaces. The hardest part? Deciding where to go first.

Paris Mountain State Park:

Located just 10 minutes from downtown Greenville, escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Here you’ll find four lakes, a swimming area (with kayaks, canoes, and pedal boats for rent), a playground, 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, and a campground. You’re sure to find something for everyone to enjoy! Damage from Hurricane Helene and recent wildfires may impact accessibility. Be sure to verify what’s open before you head out here

Conestee Nature Preserve:

Located just six miles from downtown Greenville, explore the 600-acre natural oasis and wildlife sanctuary. With over 13 miles of trails and boardwalks that wind through wetlands, forests, and meadows, you’ll get an up-close look at diverse habits while enjoying easy hikes, birdwatching, or just unwinding in nature. Check out maps upon arrival to learn more about the trail system as the preserve recovers from the effects of Hurricane Helene.

Caesars Head State Park:

This park is known for its breathtaking panoramic views and waterfalls. It is also a prime viewing spot during “Hawk Watch,” the fall migration of thousands of hawks on their way to South America (mid-September through the end of November). Raven Cliff Falls, the tallest waterfall in South Carolina with its 420-foot drop, is viewable via two hiking trails. Raven Cliff Falls Trail, a 4-mile round-trip hike, leads to a scenic overlook. Dismal Trail Loop is a 6.6-mile round-trip hike brings you to Wilderness Bridge. This unique suspension bridge crosses over the creek at the very top of the falls. If a strenuous hike doesn’t scare you, you won’t get a better view than watching the falls plunge into the depths below. Damage from Hurricane Helene and recent wildfires may impact accessibility. Be sure to verify what’s open before you head out here

Table Rock State Park:

Visitors can swim or fish in one of the park’s two stocked lakes. Kayak, canoe, and pedal boat rentals are available seasonally at the Lake Pinnacle boathouse. With several hiking trails to choose from, the most popular leads to the 3,124-foot summit of Table Rock and its epic views. You’ll also find a children’s playground, picnic shelters, and can catch monthly bluegrass jam sessions at the park’s 1930’s era lodges. Damage from Hurricane Helene and recent wildfires may impact accessibility. Be sure to verify what’s open before you head out here

Fishing

While they’ll never reveal their favorite fishing holes, Terry Benfield and Jesse Webb agree time spent fishing is time well-spent. If you’re looking to land a mountain trout, try your luck at Jones Gap State Park. The Middle Saluda River, the first designated “Scenic River” in South Carolina, winds through much of the park.

Golfing

Steven Henson knows you can’t go wrong with a nice round (or two) of golf. Book a tee time at Cherokee Valley Golf Club to enjoy a classic mountain golf course. The Preserve at Verdae provides an 18-hole experience on a par 72 championship golf course. There’s no shortage of courses in the area- check out a more extensive list here. For a less serious, more family-fun golf outing, McPherson Park, a hidden gem nestled at the north end of downtown, offers free mini golf at its 18-hole putt-putt course. You’ll need to bring your own gear but you’re sure to have a great time!

Swimming

For David Strader, nothing says summer better than the SAIL summer swim league. “My kids love to swim and what better way to spend the summer than watching them compete to see who’s the fastest in the pool. It’s also a great way to be part of our neighborhood and community,” he said.

Other Greenville Summer Fun

If you’re a fan of hitting the open road on your motorcycle, like Cody Humphries and Sean Daley, there’s no better way to feel the wind on your face. Every Wednesday evening through October 29, Harley-Davidson of Greenville hosts bike nights from 7-9pm featuring music, food, and drinks. It’s free to attend and all bikes are welcome!
