Is My Dishwasher Clogged?
A clogged dishwasher is fairly easy to spot:
- A gurgling sound coming from your sink’s drain when your dishwasher is running.
- Water coming up from the kitchen sink’s drain while the dishwasher is running.
- Your glasses and dishes are not clean after the washing cycle is complete.
- Water sitting in the bottom of the dishwasher or sink after the washing cycle is complete.
Steps to Unclog a Dishwasher
- Turn off the electricity to your dishwasher from the fuse box.
- Empty the dishwasher and remove the bottom rack.
- Use a towel to soak up and remove any water from the bottom of the dishwasher.
- Place a bowl underneath the drain hose to catch any water. Disconnect the hose and then clean it out.
- Check your dishwasher drain filter and clean it out.
Steps to Clean Out Your Dishwasher’s Drain Hose
- Remove the drain hose and begin inspecting and cleaning it out.
- Remove any debris that you may find in the drain hose. You can use a straight object like a straightened out coat hanger.
- Clean out the drain hose with a long soft brush.
- Run clean water through the hose to ensure that it’s completely clear of any debris or blockage.
Steps to Clean Your Dishwasher Drain Filter
- Clean the drain filter which is normally located at the bottom of your dishwasher. Refer to your owner’s manual.
- Turn the filter clockwise to remove it. Refer to your owner’s manual.
- Clean the drain filter with soap and warm water using a soft brush.
- Replace the filter once it is clean and clear of any debris or blockage.
